Living the American dream…basketball success for former Middlesbrough College student Theo

17 May 2018

Theo Turner, a former Middlesbrough College student was given the chance of a lifetime after he gained a 4 year scholarship to study at Seattle University in the USA.

Theo Turner played basketball for the Tees Valley Mohawks basketball club and joined the Basketball Academy at Middlesbrough College. Whilst at College Theo helped the team win the AOC North East Division as well as making the top 4 in the country in the National Championships.

At 7 foot tall, Theo dominated the court with some spectacular performances, averaging 26 points and 15 rebounds a game during his time at College.

Due to his success at College and his National League level, Theo was invited to try out at various Universities in the UK and abroad for a basketball scholarship. A coach from Seattle University travelled to the UK to watch Theo play in his final National League game for the Tees Valley Mohawks and offered Theo a 4 year scholarship to study in the USA.

After two years at Seattle University, Theo transferred across to Barry University in Miami, USA. Theo helped the team at Barry University to their first ever National Championships in 2018, averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds a game.

Theo has now successfully completed his 4 years of study in the USA and left Barry University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Now with his agent Theo is looking for a professional basketball contract abroad in Germany, Greece or Spain.

Theo is back for the summer in England where he is coaching and inspiring the Tees Valley Mohawks Juniors Teams, the next future Middlesbrough College stars.
