Winter Weather Information

Snow shovel

As we approach the winter season, we wanted to bring your attention to the upcoming drop in temperature forecast in the days ahead. Whilst the long-term forecast indicates no immediate risk of wintry conditions affecting our area before the Christmas break, we wanted to remind you of our Severe Weather Procedures as a precaution.

The College is expected to remain open at all times, and students are encouraged to attend as usual. It’s important to note that weather conditions can vary widely, and the College may remain unaffected by poor weather that might impact other areas in the region.

If your son or daughter is unable to attend due to severe local weather conditions or insurmountable transport issues, we kindly request that you promptly inform the College by contacting the designated attendance officer for their curriculum department. If they are an apprentice, they should inform their employer directly.

Whilst our priority is in-person teaching, we will assess the situation and explore the possibility of implementing remote teaching for those unable to make it to the College. Please be aware that this may lead to adjustments in the normal remote teaching timetable, and a delayed start to the teaching day could occur.

Any updates or changes to the routine will be communicated through the alert banner on the College website homepage and the College’s Facebook feed by 7:00 am. Please refrain from calling the main College number during this early stage, as it will not be manned.

Information regarding any changes to dedicated College buses will also be shared via the College Website and Facebook. For real-time information on trains and buses, please check the Trainline and Arriva Bus apps.

We advise your son or daughter to ensure they allow ample time for their journey to and from the College.

If weather conditions significantly change during the day, the College will communicate its plans, including any decision to close, through the College website and Facebook feed.

As a College, we are committed to closely monitoring weather forecasts to provide timely updates. However, weather conditions can be unpredictable, and we appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we make decisions to prioritise the safety of our College community.
