Alongside A Levels at our purpose-built sixth form MC6, we along offer vocational courses across a broad range of industries such as sport, hairdressing and engineering. If your child would like to train whilst in employment, we also offer apprenticeships through our training and apprenticeship company, Northern Skills. We also offer T Levels, a qualification which are an alternative to A Levels.

Middlesbrough College and TTE offers a different environment to a school sixth form. Your child will learn in a mature environment developing their confidence and independence for University study or future employment. They will also have the freedom to explore a range of different post 16 options ensuring that they find a course to suit their abilities and career aspirations.

English and maths at GCSE A*-C are essential qualifications for progression within further education and to Higher Education and employment. All students will continue to study English and maths if they do not hold a GCSE at grade C or above. Dependent on your child’s school grades, this will either be a GCSE re-examination, or Functional Skills.

We understand education can put a strain on finances, which is why we offer student financial bursaries, subject to availability. They could also receive financial support with equipment costs and residentials, depending on their personal situation.

All absences from College or TTE must be reported. If your child is absent from the College or TTE on a timetabled day, parents and guardians must call the Attendance Officer and/or the Department Administration team to report the absence before the timetabled class begins.

All absences not reported will be treated as unauthorised. Sickness, whilst it may be unavoidable, will usually be recorded as unauthorised.

We want everyone to achieve at the college, and pivotal to this is good attendance and punctuality. We will contact you by letter to notify you if your child’s attendance is below 95% and discuss ways to improve this.

The wellbeing of our students is something we take incredibly serious here at Middlesbrough College and TTE, which is why our Careers Team are on hand to provide information, advice and guidance, should a student change their mind about their course.

If your child has started on a course at College and it isn’t what they expected, the Careers Team is the first point of contact and a member of the team will guide them through the process and support them to find a course at Middlesbrough College that is right for their career aspirations.

We would recommend that they apply as soon as they feel happy with their preferred course to ensure that they are guaranteed a place.

On completion of your child’s application, they will be invited in to a Subject Showcase Event, which allows them to find out more about the course and meet the tutors. They will also be invited to a Taster Day to gain experience of the course.

If your child changes their mind about the chosen course midway through the year before enrolment, this is nothing to worry about. Ask them to contact the Admissions Team on 01642 333601 to make the changes on their application form. Students can apply to multiple courses and make their final decision during enrolment.
