Mother and daughter on laptop

Welcome to the New Term at Middlesbrough College and TTE

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We’re delighted that your son or daughter has joined Middlesbrough College or TTE, and we’re committed to helping them settle in and enjoy a successful first term. Starting further education is an exciting milestone, but it can also feel a little overwhelming. That’s why we want to ensure both you and your child feel informed and supported.

This letter includes key information about:

The My Middlesbrough College App

MyMbro is the official app and student portal for Middlesbrough College and TTE. It centralises access to timetables, news, events, food menus, ID card balances, transport, online learning and support services – all in one place. The app is available for download on Apple and Google Play and is also accessible via PC. Please encourage them to install and use it regularly.

Financial Support

Applying for financial assistance to support your child’s studies is quick and straightforward. Full details are available on our website under the Services and Support section, including a link to the PayMyStudent website and application form. If your household income is below £100,000, your child may be eligible for support with study-related costs such as travel, equipment, uniform or kit, and mandatory residentials. Students who received free school meals will continue to receive them at college. For those receiving weekly bursary payments, funds are loaded onto their college ID card, which can be used at campus food outlets and to purchase stationery and toiletries. If you haven’t already applied, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible via our PayMyStudent website.

New Freedoms and Responsibilities

Timetables here differ from school. Your son or daughter may not need to attend college every day, and their timetable may include days off-site for work placements. Please familiarise yourself with your child’s schedule, which may change slightly each term.

Students have independent study periods for coursework, research or revision. We encourage them to manage their time effectively and explore enrichment opportunities such as volunteering, part-time work, sports and joining the MC Students’ Union, Student Council, or becoming a Student Ambassador.

With greater freedom comes greater responsibility. We ask all students to uphold our core values and behavioural standards, showing respect and tolerance both on campus and when travelling to and from it. Our behaviour and attendance policies work best when supported at home.

Work Experience

We work closely with employers to provide meaningful work placements that enhance employability, boost UCAS applications and build student confidence. Each student is assigned a dedicated Work Placement Coordinator who will guide them through the process. If you or someone you know can help provide a placement, please email us at placements@mbro.ac.uk

Parent & Guardian Online Portal

Our online hub is your go-to resource for everything from reporting absences to learning about travel options, term dates and additional support services. You’ll also find the trips and visits consent form here, please download, sign and have your child return it to their tutor as soon as possible.

If your child is absent on a scheduled day, please call the Attendance Officer for their curriculum area before the class begins. Unreported absences are marked as unauthorised. Attendance is monitored electronically, and you’ll receive a text if your child missed registration – even if you’ve already called in.

Visit the parent hub here.

Additional Support

Our Careers Guidance team is available to help students who may be unsure about their course choice in the early weeks. They can explore alternatives and offer tailored advice.

Campus maps are available throughout the site, and staff are always happy to help students find their way.

We look forward to supporting your child throughout their journey and ensuring they have the best possible experience.

Yours sincerely,

Zoe Lewis CBE
Principal and Chief Executive
