William Paterson, Northern Skills Business Admin Apprentice
Will began his journey at Middlesbrough College Group in 2018 as a vocational course student. Once his College course was complete, Will was looking to take his next career step and applied for a kickstart role within the Northern Skills team. After progressing as a kickstart and enjoying his time as a member of staff, Will applied for a Business Administration apprenticeship within the Northern Skills recruitment team and was successful.
Will tells us more: “I have been at the College as staff since April 2021, and part of Northern Skills as an apprentice since September 2021. I went from supporting the attendance officers in the College to helping people find the apprenticeship that suits their needs best.
“All the staff are super friendly and approachable, both within my team and throughout the wider College. Everyone is always willing and eager to work together and support each other. Helping people find the right apprenticeship for them makes me feel like I’m making a difference, helping people get their foot on the career ladder in an industry they’re passionate about – just how I have!
“As with any role, it can be daunting starting at such a big organisation with so many members of staff – but everyone I have had the chance to work with has been supportive and helpful. It’s a really nice working environment.
“In my spare time I love trying new restaurants and places to eat and discovering new foods, I love my food! I also like to play games in my spare time, boring but I enjoy it!”
