Financial Support

Finances shouldn’t be a barrier to education – there is support in place for our adult students who require it. As a student at Middlesbrough College, you will have access to:

  • Free or reimbursed travel
  • A food bank
  • A clothing bank
  • Wellbeing hub

Paying for your course

There are a range of options to help fund your course at Middlesbrough College.

An Advanced Learner Loan is a UK Government scheme for people wanting to return to study. This is paid directly to the College covering the costs of your tuition fees and you don’t have to start repaying the loan until you are in employment and earning over £27,295 per year.

Also available is a Learner Support Loan which can help with equipment costs and travel expenses.

If you are having difficulties, please speak to student services.

Travelling to College

All unemployed adult learners can access free* bus travel during their studies at Middlesbrough College.

The MC Mover is our free shuttle bus from outside the BBC Building on Newport Road to and from the College. This service runs weekdays during term time only and you will be required to show your student lanyard.

All Stagecoach and Arriva North East services in the Tees Valley are also free for unemployed adult services within term times. Production of a valid College ID card and a travel sticker (purchased at Student Services) is required.

*Please note, there is a £5 administration fee if you travel by bus for your travel sticker and this is payable each term

We also have dedicated MC coach services from Easington, Ingleby Barwick, Great Ayton, New Marske/Saltburn, and Guisborough available.

Reimbursed train travel is available to full-time students from certain stations. You will be required to purchase a train ticket and the reception staff at 2 Queens Square will reimburse your fare upon receipt of the ticket on a weekly basis.

Free parking is available at our STEM Centre which is a short walk to 2 Queens Square. You will be reimbursed per mile travelled if you are using your own car. We cannot provide a refund if you use a taxi.

All reimbursements are paid directly into your bank account.
