We caught up with alumni student Kieron Ezard. Kieron studied the A Level mix it up programme at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form back in 2018. Now, Kieron is a Head of Year at St Peter’s Catholic College, looking after their pastoral and wrap around support.
Kieron said: “I really enjoyed studying at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form! My tutors were brilliant and inspired me to pursue a career in education. I was fully supported throughout my studies at Middlesbrough College, and it made me want to progress in a career where I was supporting people. My tutors and the team at Middlesbrough College helped me prepare for my next step and the teaching and care I received was outstanding.
“After completing my A Levels, I progressed to an apprenticeship working for a teaching company. Unfortunately, the company stopped trading and my apprenticeship was cut short. I decided to become self-employed as a sports coach and I had a successful career coaching for local primary schools. I then saw a job advertisement for a sports coach for St Peter’s Catholic College and I jumped at the opportunity. I was delighted when I was offered the role! The job involved sports coaching for the school and for the feeder primary schools. I then progressed into a head of role position, working closely with the students and providing that wrap around support and pastoral care.
“I have loved working at St Peter’s Catholic College and my role is very rewarding. I build relationships with parents, students and staff and help them to take that next step in their education. I would love to continue working with the school and my ultimate career goal is to progress into a senior leadership position.
“It’s also fantastic that the school has such great links and relationships with Middlesbrough College. Our Year 10 students have just enjoyed an amazing discovery day where they have had a taste of College life. I’m always concentrating on the next step for our students and supporting them with their education.
“I would absolutely recommend studying at Middlesbrough College! I had a very positive experience studying here and I wouldn’t be working in a teaching or education-based role without the support of the Middlesbrough College tutors. They inspired me to help and support others and I’m very much enjoying my role. I’m excited to see where the future will take me.”
