The Middlesbrough College Talent Pool offers flexibility to its staff members to carry out assignments offered to them to fit around their current working pattern or lifestyle. The Middlesbrough College Talent Pool cannot offer a guarantee of work but encourage Talent Pool staff to express their interest with different College managers and endeavours to be flexible in its approach to finding staff suitable work.
“Joining the hourly paid pool has given me invaluable experience and working knowledge. It allowed me to put everything I learned on my PGCE into practice. It gave me the confidence to apply for a teaching role within the College. I am now a full time lecturer and could not have achieved this without the support and guidance of Middlesbrough College.”
Rhiannon Little, Lecturer in Health and Care
Developing your skills
It is important to Middlesbrough College that all staff members have the most current and up to date knowledge on Safeguarding, Diversity, Inclusion and Health and Safety in the workplace. Our bespoke face-to-face and online training hosts compulsory modules that are to be completed by new Talent Pool staff before work is carried out. This is a great opportunity to develop a deeper understanding into these important topics.
Those who do not already hold a teaching qualification but are interested in obtaining one, consider working towards the Certificate in Education. This qualification is delivered at Middlesbrough College. Costs and more information on the qualifications that we provide can be found here.
Opportunities
The College is committed to ensuring that all staff no matter their role have the opportunity to participate in CPD activities.
The College dedicates two formal development days per year to all staff where staff can engage in a range of workshops that range from aspects of Improving Teaching, Learning and Assessment through to Safeguarding and Mental Health and Wellbeing. In addition to these development days, staff engage in a Skills Exchange once a year to share their expertise with their colleagues.
The College also holds at least two annual staff conferences which are an opportunity for staff to receive information from the Principal on the achievements of the College along with important updates throughout the academic year.
When you have begun working, you will be invited to a group induction session to introduce you to the College and some of your peers. This is a great opportunity to meet the Principal and Deputy Principal as well as representatives from different departments, including Human Resources, Finance and Health and Safety, and ask any questions that you may have.
“As a self-employed, single mum, hourly paid employment at Middlesbrough College has been fantastic for me. I can work as few or as many hours as I need to meet my requirements and other commitments. I would highly recommend hourly paid work. Being able to work the hours I need means I can still meet the demands of being self-employed as well as fulfil the duties and demands of being a parent.”
Megan Bloem, Hourly Paid Administrator
