Prepare for Success in Business, Management, and Beyond

If you’re aiming to run your own business, lead an organisation, or manage a sales team, a career in business could be ideal for you. Business careers are highly sought after across various industries, with companies in the UK recruiting for roles in management, human resources, accounting and marketing.

You’ll learn in specialist classrooms designed to prepare you for an office-based career. You’ll build a portfolio, take external exams, and gain experience to progress into various business roles, equipping you with essential skills to become more experienced and qualified. You’ll also develop transferable skills like planning, research analysis, teamwork, and effective communication.

Business Pathways Explained

Accountancy

Accountancy is all about understanding and managing money. Accountants help businesses, charities, and even governments keep track of their income and spending. They make sure financial records are accurate, follow legal rules, and help people make smart decisions about money.

If you choose to study accountancy, you’ll learn how to record financial transactions (called bookkeeping), create reports that show how a business is doing (like profit and loss statements), plan budgets, and understand taxes and financial laws. These skills are useful in almost every type of business.

Accountancy is a great option if you’re organised, good with numbers, and interested in how businesses work. It’s also a career with lots of job opportunities and the chance to work in many different industries.

Learn through real-world scenarios

It’s not all classroom based for our business students; step into the shoes of professionals with live brief projects and collaborations.

In one standout project, students partnered with the Meldrum Group to plan and host a professional networking event. Working in teams, they managed every aspect, from budgeting and promotion to venue booking, catering, and ensuring health and safety compliance.

Another group joined an initiative with the MFC Foundation and Teesside Park, where they explored the retail and leisure sector. Through behind-the-scenes tours and industry talks, students gained valuable insights into a wide range of career pathways.

These are just a few examples of the many opportunities available. Our business students regularly collaborate with local employers, gaining practical experience and exploring diverse roles across the business landscape.

“Marketing isn’t a straightforward career path with just one destination. There are so many opportunities and transferable skills. Whether I move into project management, contract law, or another profession, the skills I’ve developed through marketing will always be valuable. It’s much broader and more flexible than I originally thought.”
