Building on a career in construction
Charles Thomas, Lecturer at Middlesbrough College, is helping others build on their careers with higher level construction courses.
Charles joined the College in 2019 after working in further education (FE) for over [19] years and has been able to help many students pursue and perfect their construction skills, practice and theory.
Working in industry for 13 years, Charles has a well-versed background in the sector.
“I worked as a subcontract bricklayer for the largest house builder in the UK then in my late twenties I secured a HNC in Construction and was able to secure a lecturing role in FE.”
“It feels great to work for a vibrant and diverse college that encourages new ideas. Since being here I have developed new construction courses such as our Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment”
The programme, which can be studied either full or part time, is designed for those who wish to develop as a professional in the construction sector and continue their education through applied learning. Studied on-site at Middlesbrough College, the course is the perfect stepping stone to a more senior role.
“My biggest highlight is launching our HNC in Construction, it’s the first time the college has ran this course and we are one of the few college’s that deliver it.
“The part time option is ideal for those in work, you can move up the ladder without having to take a break from employment.”
