Alumni Tori with her colleagues

Tori Batt completed a Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Operations and continued to progress to a full-time job working as Cabin Crew with Wizz air, where she is now working in a job she thoroughly enjoys!

We caught up with Tori to hear about her journey and see how her time at Middlesbrough College helped her secure her dream role.

Tori said “The course gave me an understanding of what it was like to be a part of the industry in Aviation Operations. I also believe the standard of uniform the college provides is extremely useful as it taught me the discipline I needed in my career.

I had no idea what Aviation meant before doing a taster day when I was in secondary school. I had my mind set on wanting to be a football coach. However, the taster day at the college totally changed my perspective on my future and what I wanted to do. I was invited into a whole new world and took a chance on this course and don’t regret my decision at all.”

Looking back on her course at Middlesbrough College, Tori said:

“The tutors here were all extremely helpful in terms of support. They had all the information we needed and answered any questions we asked.

“I think it’s extremely helpful that they all have had their own experiences in the industry and was comforting to know I was learning from professionals.”

Speaking of her day-to-day job, Tori says:

“My day-to-day job is very demanding but 100% worth it. It’s sometimes very hard to adjust to having early flights one week and late flights the next. However, I wake up, do my personal hygiene and get ready for work and thoroughly enjoy it!

Sometimes I fly with people who I haven’t met whereas sometimes, if I’m lucky, I get to be with crew who I have flown with before. Making friends along the way during my day-to-day work!”

To anyone thinking about their next steps or considering a course at Middlesbrough College, Tori says:

“My advice for people wanting to do cabin crew is never give up and form your own opinion of the job. Do not let any other crew members damage what you think of the job by your experience. You need to build your own experience of what you think of the job and how you enjoy it. I enjoy the job because of the experiences and interactions I have had with crew members and passengers and as hard as the job is, it is very rewarding. It’s very nice to meet new people every day, it brings us into ideas of new languages, cultures and even personalities. I love my job and the people I meet!”

“I’m glad I studied at Middlesbrough College and that I took that Taster Day as it helped me find what I wanted to do in life.”
