We caught up with Higher Education student Jacob Mills to find out more about why he chose to continue his studies to degree level with Middlesbrough College.
Jacob said: “I’ve been studying at Middlesbrough College since 2016 and I’ve loved my time here! I started on a Level 3 Engineering course and progressed to the Higher National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering; however, computing has always been a passion of mine and something I’ve enjoyed doing in my spare time. So, I decided to change industries and train for a career in the digital sector.
“I enrolled onto the 1-year part-time Access to Higher Education Diploma in Computing at Middlesbrough College and knew I had made the right decision to change career routes. I’ve always had a flair for computing and have even built my own gaming PC at home! I really enjoyed the course, and it was fantastic that I could progress onto a computing degree after my one-year programme. After successfully completing my Access course I decided to continue my studies at Middlesbrough College’s University Centre and I’m now studying for my BSc (Hons) Computing degree!
“I have really enjoyed studying at Middlesbrough College, I was blown away by the facilities when I first came to visit the College at on Open Event and the College has continued to invest and develop their equipment and buildings since. I’m now studying in the brand-new digital centre which is amazing!
“I have also been really impressed by my tutor’s knowledge and skills whilst studying the College. All my tutors in Engineering and Digital have been supportive of me and have excellent industry knowledge. I was also well-supported at the College when I decided to change courses and was given excellent advice and guidance.
“If, like me, you don’t feel ready to move away from home, I would consider applying to study at Middlesbrough College’s University Centre. I wasn’t comfortable going away to University so it was brilliant for me that the College offers a wide range of degree courses taught in first-class facilities by experienced tutors. I’ve enjoyed studying for my degree at the College and I feel well-prepared to begin my career in the sector. The skills and knowledge I’ve gained have set me up well for any graduate roles in industry.
“I’ve also managed to work part-time alongside my studies which has been great! The courses are flexible and allow you to balance study and other commitments.
“I would wholeheartedly recommend studying at Middlesbrough College. The College has a lot to offer, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.”
