Harvey Wilson
We had a chat with Harvey Wilson, who has achieved high grades in his Business Management course, to find out what his next steps are after Middlesbrough College.
“I have really enjoyed the Level 3 Extended Business Management course at Middlesbrough College.
“Before I started my course, I had been living in Spain for 4 years. I had studied business at GCSEs and knew it was a career I wanted to go into, so when I was looking at colleges in the area, Middlesbrough College offered the course I wanted. I attended an online open day and created a few contacts with the business department.
“There are a lot of units in the course that cover different aspects of business and management. I liked studying the digital marketing, international business and customer service modules, which helped me decide where I want my career to go.
“When I finish the course, I have secured a Degree Apprenticeship role at Cisco, based in Manchester. I will be working in the sales department and after completing the 4-year apprenticeship, I will have gained a CMI (Chartered Manager Institute) degree qualification. I first applied for the role January and went through different interview stages and insight days to find out more about the company.
“My tutors helped me prepare for each interview stage, including practising a presentation I had to do deliver to managers at Cisco. They have all been very supportive and helpful throughout my time at Middlesbrough College and have been there for me with stuff outside of college, too.
“The facilities and support at Middlesbrough College have been really helpful. The library has been great to use when I have needed to create PowerPoint presentations, and GroFar has helped me manage my work placements and experience hours. During my course, we took part in different team building exercises and plan charity activities which helped me gain skills I can use in my future career.
“As a treat for completing the Business Management course, we are all going to Flamingo Land on the last day of term which I’m really looking forward to!
“I hope to gain a permeant role at Cisco once I have completed my degree apprenticeship and move up in the sales career. One day, I would like to own my own business.”
