Meet Fin, a former T Level Digital Production, Design and Development student from MC Digital!

With the option to go on to higher education, apprenticeships, or straight into employment, it’s easy to see why so many students are now choosing to study T Levels when they leave school.

Fin is an excellent example of one of those students, going from strength to strength since completing his T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development. Now, he’s ready to turn his passion for technology into an exciting career in software development.

Fin said, I fully recommend studying the T Level in Digital Production at Middlesbrough College, and T Levels in general. The work placement aspect of the T Level course was a huge advantage. It gave me real-world industry experience that I couldn’t have gained in the classroom alone.

“On the Digital Production course I learned so much about coding, software development, and other transferable skills that are incredibly useful for not only my future career but also a wide range of roles in industry. It really gave me the best of everything.”

Designed in collaboration with employers to meet industry demands, every T Level course includes a 45-day work placement. Fin completed his with Applied Integration, a cutting-edge company specialising in robotics and software.

Today, Fin is undertaking a sought-after Level 4 apprenticeship within Applied Integration’s software team, where he remains eager to continue learning and growing in this dynamic field.

To anyone considering a T Level in Digital Production, Fin’s advice is simple: “The Digital Production T Level course is a fantastic starting point. You will gain so many transferable skills that can open the door to a wide range of careers in industry.”

When Fin first arrived at MC Digital, he lacked confidence after experiencing challenges at school and didn’t yet have his GCSE maths or English qualifications. But with hard work and the unwavering support of his tutors, who he describes as “outstanding and always understanding”, he has transformed his story into one of remarkable success.

Starting with Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English, Fin progressed to achieving GCSE grades 4 and 5. Alongside this, he completed the Level 2 Information and Creative Technology (Computer Science) course, where his passion for digital really took off.

Middlesbrough College Tutor, Samantha Smethurst, said: “Through his unwavering commitment to excellence, Fin overcame the challenges of exams in the T Level in Digital Production, Design and Development programme. Despite the hurdles, his exceptional performance in industry-focused Occupational Specialism assessments highlighted his remarkable programming talent and true potential.

“His dedication not only redefined his academic journey but also laid a strong foundation for a promising future in the technology sector.”

We can’t wait to see how well Fin does on his Level 4 Apprenticeship with Applied Integration. He now also has set his sights on University, where he plans to further his passion for software development!
