Danielle Abbott
After completing her Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care at Middlesbrough College, Danielle Abbott is now studying Forensic Psychology at Teesside University.
“I really enjoyed studying at Middlesbrough College because we covered a range of topics. When we studied psychology, I knew that was the area I want to go into.
“My brother originally came to Middlesbrough College and recommended I applied. When I came to an Open Event, the tutors I met were really friendly. Throughout my time here, all my tutors have been supportive. My tutor, Clive, helped me a lot, even with personal problems. He was such a positive presence in the classroom, nothing was too much trouble for him. When it came to our exams, he made us all feel more relaxed about them.
“I would recommend studying the Health and Social care course to anyone as it can take you in many directions; it opens a lot of doors to different areas of work.
“I enjoyed studying the mental health side of the course and psychology. I’m now studying for a degree in Forensic Psychology at Teesside University and want to work in prisons and counselling.
“The skills I learnt at College have helped me at University. Before I came to College, I was very shy and had no confidence; the course has helped me build up my confidence and I’m now able to speak in front of people and present at University.
“I was at Middlesbrough College for 4 years and found it a very safe space. It felt like a second home. I made so many lifelong friends- I’m even on the same University course as someone I studied at College with, and I’ve moved into a house-share with a friend I made at the College!”
