Dan Wade
Business student, Dan Wade, was awarded ‘Level 3 Year 2 Business Student who has made the most progress’ at our Student Awards 2023. We caught up with him to chat about his experience of studying at Middlesbrough College.
“Without a shadow of a doubt, I would recommend my course to anyone thinking about applying. I have learnt so much about business management over the last 2 years. The modules in the course covered finance, business plans, marketing, liabilities, shares and stake holders.
“I decided to come to Middlesbrough College after one of the Schools Team representatives came to my secondary school and talked about the different career routes courses at the College could lead to. Everything clicked into place when they talked about the business course and I knew it was the right path for me.
“I’ve loved the course. My tutors have been firm but fair with their teaching and all bring their own experiences. Linsey, Alex, Matty and Paul have been great and supportive. Paul’s own experience of setting up and running a business has had a big impact on me.
“During my time, I’ve made a lot of friends. It’s a more mature environment and it’s been refreshing to meet different people. I’ve learnt to be more patient and allow things to flow naturally. The more you take your time on projects and work, the better the outcome. I’ve built up more resilience to situations and have defiantly come out of my shell more and built up my confidence.
“I utilised the LRC throughout my course, where I’ve been able to work on my projects. We had a lot more freedom around the College compared to secondary school. One memory of my course was a trip to Northumbria University in Newcastle. We spent the morning at the University and then the afternoon we could do our own thing in the city.
“I always knew I want to go into a finance role and the BTEC Level 3 Extended National Diploma in Business confirmed it for me. With the support from my tutor, Alex Arminfard, I have secured an apprenticeship in Accounting at JBC Accountants.
“My future career plan is to work my way up to being a Chartered Accountant. In in long term, I hope to set up my own business either in e-commerce or accounting and put all the skills I’ve gained at College into practice.”
