Overview

By developing a broad knowledge of the sector and your practical skills, you will be a valuable addition to any tourism organisation. During your tourism management degree, you will learn about the role of the stakeholders in sustainable tourism management, operational strategy and how tourism policymakers impact the industry.

The course is designed in partnership with employers and industry associations to give you a solid theoretical and practical understanding of tourism management enabling you to progress to higher level studies or directly into industry.

There are themes you will focus on throughout your course – management, destinations, tourists, and skills. With your research project you can choose any area related to tourism. Our students have explored areas as diverse as dark tourism, tourism and the media cultural tourism, climate change and tourism, and medical tourism. All your modules are designed and delivered by experienced tourism specialists which means everything you study will be relevant to your career goals. Field trips are an integral part of the course and both UK and international destinations will be available (additional cost).

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate foundation degree or Level 5 equivalent.

You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods, including, essays, presentations, research tasks, projects and case studies.

This course prepares you to lead effectively in an ever-evolving sector, with the skills and confidence needed to tackle the issues the sector is facing today and into the future. Graduates can progress to a management career working for an airline, an airport or in hundreds of organisations that directly and indirectly support the aviation industry. 

There is also the opportunity to complete the post graduate Master's in Hospitality and Tourism Management Our graduates have gone on to have successful careers within the TUI group (aviation and tour operations) Hilton group (customer service/events managers) and due to the flexibility of learning transferable skills some have become successful in other business-related industries.

To help you develop employment opportunities you will receive free membership to the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) for the duration of your degree. The ITT is a tourism trade association your student membership puts you on the road to becoming a professional Member - helping you to improve your career prospects.
