Students from Middlesbrough College crowned regional champions for the third year in a row!

Hair and Beauty students from Middlesbrough College wowed judges at the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) at the Gateshead Federation Brewery. The team of 26 students competed in the North East heat and won best overall college of 2018.

Kirsty Cooper, a Level 2 Hairdressing student placed joint 2nd in the Fantasy Hair and Makeup category with a Wizard of Oz inspired look. Kirsty will be going on to compete at the national finals in Blackpool.

 Kirsty said “I’m looking forward to Blackpool, I’m a bit scared though as there’s lots to plan!”

Aimie Carr, a Level 3 Media Makeup Artistry student also placed 2nd in the Fantasy Hair and Makeup category with a masquerade inspired look.

Aimie said “I spent ages working on the head piece, probably around 3 months! I really enjoyed the day and I am now improving the look for Blackpool.”

Amie Campbell, a Level 2 Hairdressing student placed 4th in the Ladies Evening category.

Amie said “I’m excited but nervous for Blackpool, I’m going to be practicing before and I’m already searching for hairdressing inspiration!

“I love my course; I’m learning so much that has helped me with the competition, I’m so glad I enrolled!”

Kelsha Turner, Brittany Daynes, Emma Davies, Kadie Johnson, Natalie Sidgwick, Charlotte Stocker all placed 2nd in the Team Event with a 1910 Titanic themed look.

Kelsha said “The day was stressful but I did enjoy it, we are recreating the look at Blackpool but improving our dance performance to hopefully win!”

Tutor Heather Ferguson said “It was a really good day. The skills in this competition were the strongest I have seen in my whole career. It was also the most involved other Colleges around the area have been so the competition was tough and intense, but we still placed in so many categories!

“The skills were fabulous and the students are so passionate and talented. It was just a brilliant experience!”

Ladies Evening, 4th Place- Amie Cambell- Level 2 Hairdressing

Classical Makeup 2nd & 4th out of 30 competitions Brittany Daynes- Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup and 4th Rhian King- Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup

Gender Transformation, 1st place- Brandon Mulllen- Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup

Fantasy Hair and Makeup two joint 2nd places- Kirsty Cooper- Level 2 Hairdressing and Aimie Carr- Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup and 3rd place- Olivia Barnes- Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup

Face Painting, 1st place- Amy McWilliams- Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup

Team Bridal, 3rd place- Natalie Sidgwick- Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup and Elkie- Level 1 Hair and Beauty Combined

Team Event, 2nd place, Kelsha Turner, Brittany Daynes, Emma Davies, Kadie Johnson, Natalie Sidgwick, Charlotte Stocker all Level 3 Hair and Media Makeup

The students will be going to Blackpool on 12th March to compete in the national finals.
