This month, Sport students took part in a two-week government-led Turing Scheme work placement in Fiji.
The group stayed in the beautiful village of Natobuniqio in the district of Vugalei. During their time there, they helped promote health and wellbeing in the local community, while also experiencing the culture and lifestyle that make Fiji so special.
The students worked closely with community youth representatives. They joined sessions and led activities such as circuit training, stretching, mobility work, and dance. This included both modern styles and traditional Fijian dance.
As part of the programme, they also coached and networked with Think Pacific partners. These included the Fiji Football Association, the Fiji Netball Association, Fiji National University Maritime, BoxFit HQ, and Mata Dance Fiji. Students also enjoyed a traditional dance lesson led by local villagers.
The following week, they proudly performed the routine for the village elders. It was a once in a lifetime experience, giving students hands-on industry experience while allowing them to fully immerse themselves in a new culture.
