Fashion Communication Students take on Milan

Tuesday 25 March 2025
Fashion communication students in Milan

In a recent whirlwind trip, 1st and 2nd-year Fashion Communication students explored the beautiful city of Milan, one of the most influential fashion capitals in the world. Their four-day visit was filled with world-renowned, high-fashion exhibitions, museums, and shops; and students were consistently inspired, from the modern fashion trends observed in the city to Milan’s atmosphere, architecture, and culture.

One of the student’s most memorable points of the trip was a visit to Giorgio Armani’s exhibition. Armani, a luminary in the world of fashion, has, and continues to have, a huge influence on the fashion industry. What’s more, his unique perspective on clothes, which he views as ‘a way of being over a way of appearing’, has left an indelible mark on our fashion students.

Students learnt about the inspirations that fuelled Armani’s design processes and the intricate backstories behind the garments, which have become synonymous with sophistication and elegance in the fashion industry. The exhibition also showcased how Armani’s influence has transcended borders, shaping the landscape of both men and women’s fashion worldwide.

Students also enjoyed visits to renowned fashion houses like Prada and Rick Owens store, as well as the beautiful Canal District. They also, of course, made time for some shopping – coming home with some beautiful garments and accessories to remind them of their trip!

Student Mel Thomas said: “Our visit to Milan gave me the creative freedom to explore a different culture and celebrate art in every aspect. It has also given me the knowledge and confidence to create my own projects”.

Meanwhile, Keris Milne said: “The trip has filled me with confidence. I enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, and I made memories I will never forget!”

Now, back at the College, our students are channelling the energy and inspiration they gained from Milan into their end-of-year projects. Whether drawing from the timeless elegance of Armani or the avant-garde spirit of Prada, each student is tasked with creating a unique project that resonates with a concept of their choosing – and we can’t wait to see what they create!
