Groundworks Academy

Course content:

• Cable Avoidance (CAT and Genny Training)
• Laying paving using slabs
• Laying block paving
• Laying underground domestic drainage
• New roads & street works for operatives
• CAT & Genny use and underground utility identification
• Reading and interpreting site drawings
• Simulated service excavation with mini digger and hand tools
• Laying paving (slabs and blocks)
• Installing underground domestic drainage
• New Roads & Street Works for Operatives
• Vehicle marshalling (hand signals, radio use, practical exercises)
• Safe use of abrasive wheels and cutting tools
• PPE standards and pre-use checks (PUWER 98)

Candidates will have the option to enrol onto Site Safety Academy to gain:

• Award in Health and Safety within a Construction Environment (RQF)
• CSCS Card

Various start dates available. Course sessions are Monday – Friday, 9.30am – 3.30pm, for 4 weeks.

• Applicants must be aged 19+
• Must bring proof of benefit to enrolment session
• Applicants who have not lived in the UK or EU since birth must bring proof of residency, e.g. passport (3 years old) or residence permit.
• Hold or be working at an Entry Level 3 English standard
• Hold or be working at an Entry Level 3 maths standard

Learners will be assessed through a portfolio of work and practical assessment.

On successful completion of the Groundworks Academy, you can progress into a range of entry-level roles within the construction and civil engineering sectors, including Groundworker, Construction Operative, Labourer, Highways Operative, Utilities Operative, Drainage Operative or Site Support Worker.

Individuals aged 19 or over who are unemployed, or currently employed and looking to retrain or upskill, may be eligible for full funding.

Employers are welcome to refer candidates onto this course. However, where the training is being undertaken to address a workforce skills gap, an employer contribution will be required.
