Fine Art (A Level) – Level 3

Students will select a theme to work from and create a body of work that takes them on their own independent and artistic journey.

Modules offered may vary.

Modules include:

• The formal elements in art
• Urban & landscapes
• Portraiture
• Abstract art
• Personal Investigation with a practical portfolio and personal study

This is a 2 year course studied September – June.

You should have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 4/5, with English Language and maths at grade 5.

A good grade in GCSE Art or suitable evidence of artistic talent (e.g, sketchbook) would be beneficial.

As well as the entry requirements above you will also need to meet the specific requirements for the A Level courses you choose.

All your work will be assessed against the following equally weighted Assessment Objectives with a Personal Investigation worth 60% of the A Level and an Externally Set Assignment worth 40% of the A Level.

• AO1 – Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
• AO2 – Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
• AO3 – Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
• AO4 – Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

University Opportunities

Past students have progressed to degrees in Fine Art, Photography, Architecture, Interior, Fashion, Graphic and Games Design, textiles and teaching. Students have progressed to a range of Universities including Teesside University, Northumbria University, The Northern School of Art, Newcastle University and Manchester University.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities include artist, graphic design, product design, fashion design, photography, education, art therapy, curating, illustrating, architecture and housing design.

Our MC Click scheme provides full time students (ages 16-19) on a Level 1, 2 or 3 study programmes with a free loanlaptop to assist with their studies. Laptops can be collected at enrolment. Click here for more information about MC Click.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Although not part of our full-time A Level study programme, students can work with our dedicated Work Experience Co-ordinator to secure a suitable placement, be that a one-off experience, or a more long-term placement.
