A Levels with Applied Human Biology – Level 3

Modules offered may vary.

Modules include:

Year 1:

• 180 GLH – Equivalent to 0.5 of an A Level
• Principles of Applied Human Biology– External Exam (Mandatory Unit)
• Practical Microbiology and Infectious Disease – Internal Assessment (Mandatory Unit)

Year 2 :

• 180 GLH – Top up to reach the equivalent of an A Level
• Human biology and health issues – External Assessment (Mandatory Unit)
• Functional Physiology– Internal Assessment (Mandatory Unit)

On completion of all four unit’s students will leave with the equivalent of 1 A Level – BTEC National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology.

This is a 2 year course studied September – June.

You should have achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, including English language and mathematics.

As well as the entry requirements above you will also need to meet the specific requirements for the A Level courses you choose.

Assessment is continuous throughout the qualification and is a mixture of external examinations and internally assessed assignments.

University opportunities

Past students have progressed to study degrees in biology, biological science, microbiology, radiography, paramedic sciences, forensic science, sport science and sports therapy with rehabilitation. Dependent on the other subjects it is studied alongside.

Career opportunities

These include fields allied to medicine, dietetics, laboratory technician, psychologist, research and development, management, environmental professions, conservation and sports science.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.
