Work experience helps create dream apprenticeship role for Middlesbrough College student Nieve
Middlesbrough College student Nieve Dunning has impressed her work placement employer CB Social and has progressed to a sought-after apprenticeship!
The Level 3 Media Technical Diploma (Film and Media Production) student took on a social media work placement with CB Social as part of her studies at the College and quickly impressed with her knowledge, skills, and work ethic. Following the successful work placement, and with the support of the College’s apprenticeship and training arm, Northern Skills, Nieve was offered a Level 3 Junior Content Producer Apprenticeship with CB Social.
Nieve was also awarded the ‘Most Improved Creative Media Student’ of the Year at Middlesbrough College’s prestigious annual Student Awards Ceremonies. The talented 17-year-old said that studying with the Middlesbrough College Group has opened doors to working within the marketing and advertising sector.
She said: “I loved studying my media course at the College and especially enjoyed studying the content creation and social media modules. I knew then that I wanted to work in a digital marketing role.
“With the help of the College’s work experience team I was offered a digital marketing social media placement with CB Social. CB Social are a local digital marketing agency who specialise in social media marketing and content creation and work with clients across the globe. I spent one day per week during the final months of my College course with the agency and loved the experience!
“I’m now working at the agency as a Junior Social Media Manager and working with clients such as Naio Nails, MI supplies and Reeds Rains. I work on all social media accounts for our clients, creating content and social media strategies. I created a TikTok for a client that went viral with over 22k views! It was the launch of their TikTok account, and the client was impressed with my work, as was my manager! I love my role- it is the perfect career for me!
“I can’t fault the College or the tutors at all and I would wholeheartedly recommend studying at Middlesbrough College. I was supported throughout my studies and had everything I needed to succeed. The College helped me to find a relevant work experience that supported my career goals and I’ve secured my dream role because of this.
“If you have ambitions to progress to a social media or digital marketing role and you are leaving school this year, I encourage you to consider applying for a media course at Middlesbrough College and to do a work placement! The experience has opened so many doors for me and I’m excited to continue progressing in my career with CB Social.”
Callum Devine, Managing Director of CB Social said: “It has been a very rewarding experience taking on a work placement student with Middlesbrough College. Nieve was working on real client facing projects and supported our workload during her placement. She is a talented and has a bright future ahead of her.
“The College prepares students well for industry and Nieve came to her placement with the right attitude and desirable skills in editing, design and photoshop. Middlesbrough College is training students to walk straight into employment, and I’m delighted that we have been able to offer Nieve an apprenticeship so she can progress in her career with us.
“I’m also a former Middlesbrough College student, so it is brilliant to be supporting the next generation of local talent with opportunities. I would encourage other local businesses to take on a work placement student and get in touch with the work placement team at the College. I know giving those valuable hours of experience massively benefits the students, and it is helpful for our business too!”
