Middlesbrough College’s Head of Teaching and Learning, Francesca Elgie, has been appointed to the Education, Quality and Standards (EQS) Committee – one of just four members selected from across England.
Established by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), the EQS Committee plays a vital role in upholding high standards across the education sector. Its focus includes teaching, learning, assessment and overall academic performance, ensuring that education providers align with the strategic goals and quality benchmarks set by the ETF.
In her new role, Francesca hopes to give a voice to college staff and raise the profile of teaching in the FE sector.
She said: “I feel incredibly grateful for this opportunity. It’s exciting to be part of something with national impact and give a voice to our professionals at the college. I’m proud to represent our staff, especially our dual professionals who deserve recognition for their hard work.”
Alongside her national appointment with the EQS Committee, Francesca will continue her work as Head of Teaching and Learning for Middlesbrough College’s Digital, Sports, Travel and Public Services, Service Industries, and Visual Performing Arts departments. In this role, she designs and delivers impactful CPD for tutors, leading lesson observations and teaching training, and driving the college’s Taking Teaching Higher strategy.
Despite her expanding responsibilities, Francesca’s favourite part of the job remains the same – inspiring students through teaching.
She said: “Students are the heart of the college. Working with them and seeing them succeed will always be the most rewarding part of my role.”
