Luke Snowden has celebrated A Level success after studying Film Studies, English Literature and English Language at Middlesbrough College.
His results were outstanding, achieving A*, A and B. This special achievement is particularly impressive as Luke joined A Levels later than the other students, after completing his first year on a different course.
“I’m really pleased with how things have worked out. I chose a mix of A Levels that appealed to me, but also subjects I felt I was good at and had a fighting chance of building a career after college.
“All my teachers were fantastic, and that really helped me. I think the willingness of my teachers to support and understand me was probably the most important thing. That support made it feel like the best path for me.”
During his time at Middlesbrough College, Luke faced challenges with confidence and motivation, but with the right support, he recognised his potential.
“I felt like I wasn’t really very good at anything, and I didn’t always try as much as I should have. It wasn’t always that I didn’t try; sometimes, I just couldn’t.
“I got a couple of good essays back from my mocks, and they went well. Then it happened a couple more times. That’s when I thought, ‘Yeah, I might as well try this.’ After that, I became quite heavily invested in trying to do well.
“I don’t think I would have been able to do it without all the support from the college.”
He is now heading off to the University of Hull, with his sights set on a future career in Clinical Psychology.
“I chose Hull because it’s one of only two universities that offers a fully funded, fast-track route onto a Clinical Psychology doctorate.
“I chose to study Psychology because it seems fulfilling to me. I’ve had support, and at the moment, I feel like working in the sector would motivate me. It would be nice to be able to help people.”
For anyone considering studying A Levels at Middlesbrough College, Luke’s advice is simple.
“Don’t worry too much if you don’t think you are good enough at something. I wasn’t able to reach my full potential until I tried. Just try.”
