Katy Gettings
We caught up with former MC Digital student Katy!
Katy progressed to an apprenticeship with the help of Northern Skills. Before beginning her apprenticeship, Katy studied the Level 3 Media Technical Diploma at Middlesbrough College.
Katy said: “When I was nearing the end of my Level 3 course at College, I was unsure what I wanted to do. I knew that I didn’t want to go to University, and I was anxious about my next step. That’s when I decided to talk to the team at Northern Skills.
“After researching more about apprenticeships, I decided that it was the right route for me. I wanted to gain hands-on experience and develop my skillset in the workplace.
“I found the apprenticeship vacancy online for the Junior Content Production role at Surge Marketing and with the help of the team at Northern Skills I applied for the apprenticeship and was successful in my interview.
“I’m absolutely loving my apprenticeship! I feel 100% ready for the workplace. I get to work on real life projects, my confidence has grown, and I’ve made friends for life too.
“My skills in photography and video editing have improved and I love working on shoots. As part of my role, I help to make videos for social media for clients and I’m also the internal photographer for the company. My apprenticeship has confirmed my passion for video and editing and I’m to continue pursuing this throughout my career.
“Surge are a great company to work for and are a really supportive employer. There is a fantastic work ethos; everyone is always very positive, and I look forward to going to work each day.
“Middlesbrough College was also a brilliant place to study. Unfortunately, I was ill during my studies at the College, but I was fully supported through my Level 3 course and my tutors helped me to catch up on my work. They also supported me with my next step and helped me with my application for my apprenticeship. The facilities at the College’s Digital Centre are also outstanding. The equipment is industry-standard and really helps you to develop the skills needed for the workplace. I would 100% recommend coming to study here!
“My advice to anyone considering applying for an apprenticeship is to go for it! The role will allow you to harness the skills needed for industry and you’ll get paid for it too!”
