Jacob Kerrison, an ex-student at Grangetown Primary, heads back to the primary school to complete his Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship – joining his former teachers as a colleague!
After volunteering at the school in his spare time, Jacob wanted to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities. He said: “I always thought about working in education but I didn’t pursue it after leaving school. It wasn’t until I started volunteering here that I realised how much I enjoyed it, and then I found out about the apprenticeship.
“At first, it felt a bit strange coming back as a staff member – the school feels really similar to when I was a pupil, but now that I’m older, everything seems so small! However, I think it helped me settle into the role really quickly. I’ve really enjoyed learning on the job, it was definitely the best route for me!
“After my apprenticeship, I’m hoping to find a full-time teaching assistant role. I’d love to get into teaching eventually but for now, I want to gain more experience as a TA and keep developing my knowledge and skills.”
