We caught up with Hadi about his experience studying with us. Hadi moved to the UK after living in Syria and Iraq and joined the ESOL course at Middlesbrough College.
Hadi said: “I really enjoyed studying my ESOL course at Middlesbrough College. The course built my confidence not only in my studies, but also in my everyday life living in the UK. I’m now more confident, which has allowed me to be more independent.
“I moved to the UK seven years ago from Iraq as it was no longer safe to live there. Although I do miss my life back at home, there are more opportunities to progress and learn here in the UK and it is a much safer place to be.
“The ESOL course at Middlesbrough College has developed my English skills and opened lots of doors for future opportunities. I was delighted to pass my maths GSCSE at the College and I’m waiting the result of my English GCSE this summer.
“I was able to progress on to a Level 2 IT & Digital course at the College which I’ve been doing really well in, however I’ve decided it’s not the route for my future career, but I have enjoyed learning and progressing with the College. I’m hoping to transfer on to a construction course in September and continue my learning journey with the College.
“I’ve made new friends at the College who have similar life experiences to me too. It’s been great to meet other students from across the globe and we all speak English together to improve our skills. The ESOL course was like one big family, we all supported each and other and I’m still close with lots of my classmates.
“The College is a comfortable, friendly and safe environment and I’m happy that I’ve been able to come and study here.”
