Overview

The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to test your ability and advance your technical skills against the awarding body criteria and industry requirements. You will acquire knowledge on how to quantify materials, price up jobs effectively and learn how to be competitive within the industry. You will also learn and develop an outstanding health and safety ethos, essential to the industry.

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication
  • Carry out First Fix Flooring and Roofing
  • Carry out First Fix Frames, Partitions and Stairs
  • Carry out Second Fixing Operations
  • Carry out Carpentry Maintenance
  • Set up and Operate a Circular Saw

September - June

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery qualification.

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills.

There are also a number of short theory paper based tests and a multiple choice on-line exam linked to the theory units delivered.

You can progress on to the Level 3 Site Carpentry. You can also progress to full time employment in industry, potentially through an apprenticeship.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further education.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Construction

Explore Construction

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
