Overview

This course is a stimulating and challenging subject which is highly regarded by employers and universities. You will gain knowledge of a wide variety of mathematical techniques and transferable skills in problem solving and analytical thinking. This course builds upon GCSE topics already studied, especially algebra and geometry.

This course covers a wide variety of mathematical techniques and
transferable skills in problem solving and analytical thinking. The course
includes the pure mathematic subjects:

  • Proof
  • Algebra and Functions
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Sequences and Series
  • Trigonometry
  • Exponentials and Logarithms
  • Differentiation
  • Integration and Vectors

The final exam paper assesses statistics and mechanics.

September - June

Entry requirements

You should have achieved at least five 9-5 grades at GCSE (not equivalents), including English language and maths. An average GCSE point score of 5.5 recommended (only GCSE grades for this score, not equivalents). You should have achieved a grade 7 in GCSE maths and achieved a satisfactory initial assessment grade.

100% examination.

You will complete 3 written papers at the end of year 2.

University Opportunities: Past students have progressed to study degrees in engineering, computing, accountancy, economics, business, quantity surveying, psychology, architecture, education, mathematics and physics.
Career Opportunities: Career opportunities include engineering, accountancy, IT business analysis, computing, banking, surveying, retail management, air traffic control, architecture, cartography, healthcare and teaching.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.
