This qualification offers an engaging and effective introduction to psychology. You will learn the fundamentals of the subject and develop skills valued by universities such as critical analysis, independent thinking and research.

You will gain a sound understanding of various research methods and approaches in psychology, which will be illustrated through various topic areas which have been chosen because of their importance and prominence within the area of psychology.

Entry requirements

  • 5 or more GCSEs (not equivalents) including English and maths at grade 5 or above.
  • Grade 5 in science (combined trilogy/ biology).

There are three 2 hour written exams at the end of the second year. All papers are assessed with multiple choice, short answers and extended writing.

This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses.

Past students have progressed onto a range of degree programmes at Middlesbrough College including the Fd/ BSc (Hons) Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, Fd/ BA (Hons) Early Childhood Professional Studies, BA (Hons) Education, Fd/BA (Hons) Youth, Childhood and Community Studies, BA (Hons) Business (Human Resource Management) or (Marketing and Enterprise) and BA (Hons) Social and Public Sector Development.

This specification builds on skills developed in the sciences and humanities and enables progression into a wide range of other subjects at university.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

You only need to apply once for A Level programmes. After receiving your application form you will be invited to attend an informal interview where you will have a chance to discuss which specific A Level subjects you would like to enrol on.
