Taking Qasim to film sets with the stars

06 July 2020

Middlesbrough College alumni Qasim Baig is excelling in the Film and Television industry, working with some of the most notable names in the sector.

Qasim studied A Levels in English Language, Sociology, Media & Film Studies at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form in 2011. Nine years later and he is brushing with the stars, freelancing at various production offices across the UK in TV dramas. These include The Split (BBC), Back to Life (BBC), Tales from the Lodge starring Jonny Vegas and The Vanishing starring Gerard Butler.

Qasim said “I am incredibly lucky that I have been successful enough to work on over thirty film and television projects since leaving education. I’ve worked all around the UK and been to some of the best locations and studios. Plus I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest actors in the TV & Film industry.

“It all started at Middlesbrough College. I left College with a passion for TV & Film and wanted to pursue it further. I also left with the understanding of topics in great depth and a drive to continue to learn in those fields.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my two years at Middlesbrough College. I met great tutors and support staff and made lifelong friends.”

After completing his A Levels at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form (MC6), Qasim progressed to University to complete a degree in Film and Television Production. During his time at University, Qasim came back to Middlesbrough College to produce the annual Christmas video.

Qasmin said “It was great to come back and create the first Christmas video for Middlesbrough College. The staff loved filming it and it was lovely to be able to catch up with my tutors.

“My A Level studies definitely prepared me well for my degree and for practical projects as I was able to put everything I had learned theoretically into my work. The tutors are all experts in their fields too which was important for me as my ambition was to work within the competitive TV & Film sector.

“I would 100% recommend studying at Middlesbrough College. The courses are well thought through and there is a great emphasis on personal development.

“The College is a very friendly environment where everyone encourages each other and helps one another.

“If you are aspiring to work within the Film and Television industry, I would definitely encourage you to look at Middlesbrough College. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support, guidance and knowledge.”
