Magnificent make-up and dazzling hairdressing saw students from Middlesbrough College crowned regional champions, for the second year in a row.
Hair and Media Make-up students from the College wowed judges at the hotly-contested annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Regional Competition recently.
The skilled youngsters made a splash at Gateshead Federation Brewery with their intricate make-up and hairdressing work across a series of categories designed to put their artistry and technique to the test.
Their efforts earned them “The Best College 2017” trophy plaque, and a chance to compete on the national stage next month, at Blackpool Winter Gardens.
Around 14 students representing Middlesbrough College’s expert Hair and Media Make-up department tackled challenging, timed briefs using hairdressing and make-up to stunning effect.
Gender transformation, vintage Hollywood and fantasy worlds were among the themes presented to them in the briefs.
Heather Ferguson, Level 2 and 3 Hair and Media Make-up Course Leader, joined the students at the competition and was thrilled about their success.
She said: “This competition is very well contested and the students have done incredibly well to get this recognition, for the second year in a row.
“We’re thrilled to be heading to Blackpool next month to prove our skills on the national stage.
“The students should be very proud of themselves, as should the course staff – Sophie Barwick, Neil Elliott and Lindsey Hindhaugh who have supported the students and encouraged them all the way to achieve these outstanding results.”
Middlesbrough College’s success also caught the attention of top North East barber Tom Baxter – who has won numerous awards and earned himself a sizeable following on YouTube and Instagram.
