Stephen Brown
Sub Committee: Corporate Services Committee
Stephen joined the Governing Body as of December 2021.
Born in Stockton, educated in the region, Stephen went to the then Newcastle Polytechnic to study General Practice Surveying. Stephen’s first job was with King & Co in London, but the draw back to the North was strong and he returned to the north east in 1984 as a Surveyor with Dodds Brown. In 1987 Dodds was taken over by Halifax and the commercial arm of the business subsequently traded as Hepper Robinson, which was a national organisation with their North East offices based in Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
Stephen was appointed as a Director of the company and subsequently purchased the North East business in 1992 and renamed the company Dodds Brown and has been the Senior Partner in the business ever since.
Stephen’s background is in the commercial property sector and having been on Teesside for the last 35 years, has been involved in many of the key and strategic projects across the area, more recently TeesAmp, Middlesbrough; Centre Square, Middlesbrough; Sirius Minerals, Redcar/North Yorkshire; and reaching back into the past, he was involved in the original Middlehaven development, Middlesbrough working with the Teesside Valley Regeneration and Terrace Hill; Teesdale Business Park in Stockton working again with Terrace Hill; Preston Farm Industrial/Car showroom/office development in Stockton with Terrace Hill, Rokby Developments, Easter Management; several retail developments on Portrack Lane, Stockton and elsewhere in the northern region including office and retail park developments with Terrace Hill in Sunderland and a retail park development in Berwick upon Tweed.
Based on Albert Road in Middlesbrough, Dodds Brown has a small dedicated team who handle, manage, co-ordinate and deliver a wide range of commercial property services. They act as Managing Agents for a variety of commercial properties, liaising with tenants, providing asset management and strategic advice as well as day to day facilities management and also provide consultancy advice to both the private and public sector bodies and development and investment advice to both private and corporate clients. The team are all locals who have either lived in the area all their lives or have migrated to the area through their work or their family connections.
Stephen currently lives in the North Yorkshire countryside with his wife, his children now grown up with their own children. Hobbies include walking, sailing competitively, ski-ing, golf and enjoys spectating at cricket, football and rugby – having been a member at the Middlesbrough Rugby Club for over 25 years.
