Co-opted Governor

Riya Nighoskar holds a BSc in Psychology from Lancaster University and an MSc in Clinical Applications of Psychology from the University of Hull, completed during the pandemic. Building on this foundation, she earned a Postgraduate Diploma in High-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2023.

In 2022, Riya began her career as a Trainee High-Intensity CBT Therapist with The Junction, a voluntary sector organisation dedicated to mental health support. After qualifying, she worked as a High-Intensity CBT Therapist, delivering evidence-based therapy to children and teenagers within The Junction and the Inside Out team.

In 2024, alongside her clinical work, Riya stepped into a leadership role as Deputy Operations Manager, overseeing two mental health services and contributing to safeguarding efforts.

In January 2026, Riya will transition back to a full-time clinical role with the Getting Help Team as a High-Intensity CBT Therapist and with the Inside Out Team, all whilst pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision. Throughout her career, Riya has remained committed to improving mental health services and advocating for equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Outside of work, Riya enjoys spending time with family and their rescue dogs. A passionate musician, she finds singing and playing the piano deeply therapeutic.
