Asma Shaffi joined the Governing Body on 16 December 2024.
Asma worked as a Principal of Prior Pursglove and Stockton Sixth Form College, serving it for more than twenty years in various leadership roles. She now works as a Parliamentary Caseworker for a Member of Parliament and is a trained Independent Panel Member for disciplinary and appeals tribunals for the Police. Asma is a Trustee of Halo Project that works to eliminate violence against women and girls.
Asma has worked in the public, voluntary and education sector for nearly 32 years, ranging from organisations such as Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Workers’ Educational Association, Citizens Advice Bureau and Institute of Linguists. Asma has chaired the Independent Advisory Group for over 20 years as a critical friend to the Cleveland Police in promoting positive race relations.
She also worked for the local authorities and a national college on adult education and regeneration projects in the earlier part of her career and was instrumental in pioneering one of the largest businesses in the Northeast offering linguistic and translation services. Her educational background comprises Economics, Law and Social Research and she can speak Urdu, Punjabi and Persian. In her spare time, she enjoys trail running and hiking.
