Rob Penrose

We caught up with alumni student Rob Penrose who studied the BSc (Hons) Sound and Music Technology degree at Middlesbrough College’s University Centre back in 2011.

Rob moved to Manchester after completing his degree at Middlesbrough College and quickly found employment with a post- production agency working as a Runner/ Technical Operator. He worked on a range of television programmes from documentaries to animation across a range of channels including BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Rob then progressed into the Audio team at the company and enjoyed working for the organisation for ten years!

Now, Rob is running his own company, freelancing and working on exciting projects as a voice actor, musician and technical audio mixer. He’s already enjoyed success working on projects for CBeebies on a variety of shows including Postman Pat, The Baby Club and more recently Tinpo where he worked as the Sound Designer and Voice Director.

Rob said: “I loved studying Sound and Music Technology at Middlesbrough College. The course has allowed me to excel in the industry and helped to develop my skills and knowledge needed for the sector.

“The degree programme is practical and sets you up for the world of work. The tutors have industry experience and support you to fulfil your career ambitions. I had job interviews lined up before I had even handed in my final assignments! I would definitely recommend studying for the degree in Sound and Music Technology at Middlesbrough College, especially if you have ambitions of progressing into the television, film and music industry.

“Since graduating I’ve been fortunate to work on a range of exciting television projects including Rip off Britain, Songs of Praise, We are England and Dinopaws to name a few! Now that I’m freelance, I’m hoping to move back to Teesside to continue carving out my career in the industry.”
