VPAC student of the year winner 2019 Katie Maughan has recently finished her Level 3 Media (Journalism) course at Middlesbrough College and is now excited to be studying a degree in Film & Television Production at University.
Katie said “I absolutely loved studying at Middlesbrough College. My Level 3 Media (Journalism) course was fantastic and so creative. Honestly, I didn’t want to miss a single lesson because it was so interesting!
“I gained a wide range of skills and experience during my course including learning how to create podcasts, music videos and short films. This also involved learning about editing and reporting. The course was brilliant for developing my talents and boosting my confidence.
“My tutors were incredible and helped me to decide which course to study at University and helped with my applications. I had good relationships with everyone and could talk to them about anything. During my time at College I struggled personally with anxiety and my mental health, but the College was so supportive of me and thanks to their understanding I gained high grades in my course and completed it on time, despite having to take some time off.
“My course has prepared me well for University and I have found that I am covering some of the same topics in my degree which has given me a head start.
“I would love to work as part of a creative team in a television production company once I have finished University but I am keeping my options open. That’s the great thing about studying media- there are so many opportunities and careers that you can go in to. It’s also so exciting that the digital sector is taking off in Teesside!”
Katie has been offered a scholarship by The School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies. This is the highest scholarship offered by the university and is only awarded to one student a year and will help Katie to work on more creative projects during her studies.
