Middlesbrough College student Elle Birkbeck is currently studying A Level Sociology alongside Level 3 Applied Business and Level 3 Applied Criminology in the Mix it Up Programme!

Elle has recently secured a place on a Business Management Degree Apprenticeship programme with Dunelm, where she will attend Manchester Metropolitan University once a month to complete her studies as part of the apprenticeship.

She said, “I was originally drawn to Middlesbrough College because of its fantastic location, it’s so close to the town centre! As soon as I attended an Open Event and met the teachers, I knew it was the place for me. They were all so enthusiastic about their courses.

“I had known when applying to College that I wanted to go into business, so finding the right place was really important. I also wanted to study criminology and at the time Middlesbrough College was one of the only Colleges near me that offered a course in it, so it became the obvious choice!

“The support I’ve received from my teachers throughout my time here has been amazing. Especially my business teachers! Andy and Mike couldn’t have helped me more with my application for the Degree Apprenticeship with Dunelm, they even helped me to prepare for my interview, which made me feel so much more confident.

“I’m really looking forward to starting my career with Dunelm and hopefully progressing within the company after my apprenticeship is over.

“I’ve loved my time here at Middlesbrough College and I’ve met so many people and made friends for life. I’d definitely recommend coming to study here, you get a level of independence that you usually wouldn’t find at more traditional sixth forms.

“I’d also recommend studying business here, it’s such an interesting subject and the things you learn can be used in many other areas of life! I’ve got my own eyelash business and I hope to continue to grow this alongside my business management career.”
