Calum Priestley has plans to progress into an apprenticeship on completion of his Level 3 course in Production Arts.
The 22 year old initially studied a Foundation Degree in Stage Management at Newcastle College, however found that the course was too theoretical.
"I love the practical element of the course and the fact my class size is small means that I get to take part in all aspects of running and managing the commercial theatre."
He chose Middlesbrough College due to its on-site commercial theatre, and emphasis on developing practical skills.
Calum has been volunteering at local theatre production company, CrashBangWallop for the past four years supporting with lighting as part of the stage crew.
