Art and Design Practice (Including Art and Design/Fashion and Textiles/Photography and Graphics) – Level 3

Depending on the chosen route, students will also cover:

Fashion and Textiles route:

Opportunities using our well-equipped fashion, textiles and print studios: fashion design and illustration, fashion branding, garment and accessory production, screen printing, creative textiles, interior design and surface pattern.

Photography and Digital Graphics route:

Opportunities using our well-equipped digital suites, photography studios and dark room: studio and location photography, image editing and manipulation, printmaking, creative experimental techniques, studio and lighting management and image communication.

Fine Art and Illustration route:

Opportunities using our well-equipped art and print studios, and digital suites: concept investigation, drawing, painting, traditional and digital illustration, concept art, installation and large scale 3D work.

September – June

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 vocational qualification with GCSE English at grade 4 or above, or 5 GCSEs, one of which must be English.

A portfolio is a key part of the interview process.

As well as exploring set briefs, you will also develop independent creative projects, allowing you the freedom to develop your project work in an individual way. There are no exams on this course, as all work undertaken is assignment based.

University opportunities for Fashion and Textiles: Our students have progressed to study degrees such as fashion design, fashion buying and merchandising, fashion journalism, costume design, contemporary textiles products, interior design and surface pattern design.

Career opportunities for Fashion and Textiles include: Fashion design, interior design, costume design, product design, fashion illustration, teaching, marketing, journalism, production, buying and merchandise.

University opportunities for Photography and Digital Graphics: Our students have progressed to study degrees such as commercial photography, fine art photography, photo journalism, digital graphics, animation and visual effects.

Career opportunities for Photography and Digital Graphics include: Fashion photography, commercial photography, fine art photography, photo-journalism, live events, teaching, graphics, TV and broadcast media.

University opportunities for Fine Art and Illustration: Our students have progressed to study degrees such as fine art, illustration, concept design, animation, glass and ceramics, product design and graphic communication.

Career opportunities for Fine Art and Illustration include: Fine art, illustration, graphic design, teaching, curating, conservation and restoration, tattoo artist, community art worker, film and theatre.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home-fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

All full time students will be offered a number of options to secure at least 10 days of meaningful work experience during the year. This is an important aspect of the course and will help to develop your skills to get a job, progress to a higher level qualification at Middlesbrough College or potentially gain a place at university.
