Graham Orrell

Alumni student Graham Orrell studied the BTEC IT & Computing Diploma with A Level Computer Science 24 years ago at Middlesbrough College (formerly Longlands College). Since leaving the College, Graham has gone from strength to strength in his career, and he thanks Middlesbrough College for giving him the skills he needed to succeed.

After completing his studies at Middlesbrough College, Graham graduated with a First Class honours degree in Computer Science from Teesside University then moved to London to work in IT development in investment banking. After starting on the Barclays Capital graduate scheme, he worked his way up to Director level before creating his own consultancy NorthLink Digital – a digital agency focussing on IT consulting, digital design and development.

The company, which has a development team based in the Boho Zone in Middlesbrough, has grown rapidly since Graham founded the agency two and a half years ago and the business works closely with a range of clients across the UK. 

Graham said “I had always been interested in IT and computers from a young age. I decided to enrol on to the BTEC Diploma in IT & Computing at Middlesbrough College or Longlands College as it was known back then, as the course was vocationally orientated and I knew it would give me the skills I needed to succeed within the industry.

“The course itself was very practical and hands-on and it is these practical skills that I look for when I hire graduates to work for my team.

“My business- NorthLink Digital continues to grow and this is something I am extremely proud of as it was my goal to set up a successful digital business in my hometown. I am from Thornaby and I am passionate about creating opportunities and expanding The North East, especially Teesside.
