Overview

This course is ideal for you if you want to start a career in the building industry. You will learn advanced brickwork skills such as constructing fireplaces and chimneys, repairing and maintaining masonry structures, giving you excellent knowledge of the brickwork industry. You will develop good health and safety practice and learn how to successfully organise, plan and price up a construction work project.


On completion of this course, you will be offered the opportunity to achieve the IOSH L1 Cert Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers and CSCS card qualifications.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 Brickwork qualification.

You will be assessed through coursework, practical and unit based examinations and an online multi-choice exam.

You can progress to a higher education course in construction, or a construction apprenticeship standard in bricklaying, if employment is gained with a bricklaying company. You can also progress directly into employment. The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further education.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Construction students will have the opportunity to work in state of the art workshops, and have access to a real life outdoor construction site. This realistic work environment allows students to gain practical experience in constructing a single story dwelling which is built from foundations up to the roof.
