Overview

You must have a Level 2 in Welding to enrol onto this course. We reserve the right to check qualifications for entry criteria to the course and cancel your enrolment with a full refund if there is no proof of certification.

The City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Welding qualification forms part of the advanced apprenticeship framework and will develop your skills in a range of specialist areas such Welding with the Tungsten Inert Gas/Tungsten Arc Gas (TIG/TAG) Shielded Welding Process and Welding with the Manual Metal Arc process.

This Level 3 programme has a good balance between theory and practical work and you will learn by applying your skills and knowledge to a range of industry-based situations that occur in a real working environment.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a Level 2 qualification in Welding.

Assessment will be on-going in the workshop throughout the year for all practical welding where you will need to complete eight test pieces.

There is a Gola Health and Safety multi choice exam and three written exams.

Completion of the course will enable you to work in areas such as product manufacturing, quality control or progress to a higher education qualification such as an HNC, HND or degree, or entry onto an advanced apprenticeship framework in welding.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.


If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Level 3 Entitlement: If you are aged 19 - 23 on the start date of the course and this is your first full Level 3 qualification the course is free.

Advanced Learner Loan: If you are aged 19-23 and this is not your first full Level 3 qualification or you are aged 24 or over on the start date of the course, you will have to pay fees. However, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. You can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) to fund all or part of the fee.
