Overview

This course will develop your culinary techniques with a variety of ingredients and teach you advanced skills within the kitchen and larder in order to produce food ina professional environment along with customer interaction as a base for working in the Hospitality Industry.

You will learn how to prepare and cook food using a range of cooking methods, serving customers and developing communication, team building and customer service skills. You will also improve your knowledge of healthy eating, food hygiene and safety.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved an appropriate Entry Level vocational qualification and/or GCSEs at grade 2-1 (E-F) or above.

Assessment will be completed through a range of practical tests and short answer papers.

You can progress onto a Level 2 Certificate Culinary Skills, a Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery or an appropriate apprenticeship.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for university we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.

Tuition fees are free if you are a UK or home- fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.

Catering and Hospitality students will have the opportunity to work in our award winning training restaurant, The Waterside Brasserie. The restaurant is open to the public across the week and all the food is prepared and served by our students in one of our five fully equipped industrial kitchens.
