If you love searching in charity shops for great vintage finds at incredible prices, then look no further than the College’s own Vintage Shop!
The College’s Vintage Shop is opening its doors to the public for the Grand Opening on Monday 22nd October at 1:30pm. Filled full of second hand clothes, shoes, gifts, household items, jewellery and DVD’s from popular highstreet shops including New Look, Topshop and River Island, the shop provides a taste of working life for Life Skills and ESOL students at College.
Students have the opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on work experience, working in the shop once a week whilst also providing fashionable products at great prices for College students, staff and the general public!
The shop acts as a stepping stone to improve students’ lives and employability skills as all students gain experience in handling money, book keeping, organising stock, shop layout and promotional material design.
Jack Cinston, a Life Skills student said “I love working in the Vintage Shop. Setting up the shop for the opening has been hard work; I would come home from College and need to have a lie down on the sofa! But the whole experience has been a lot of fun. I have really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to people coming in to see all our hard work.
"I used to volunteer at James Cook’s Hospital shop which I loved. I have already been searching for jobs in retail so I can work in a shop once I leave College!”
Classmate Oli Prime said “I have enjoyed getting the shop ready for the grand opening. My job has been sorting and organising all the tags and creating the posters and flyers. It has been a lot of fun.”
The Vintage Shop is open Monday 1.30-3.30 and Friday 9.30-11.30, but if you can’t make those times, don’t worry! The shop can open by special request if you come down to room 0.003 on Tuesday at 1-2.30pm or Wednesday at 3.30-4.30pm. All profits from the Vintage Shop raise money for foundation learning projects and various charities locally and nationally.
So if you fancy a new outfit or are looking for the perfect gift for someone, then head down to the Vintage Shop on the College Street and pick up a bargain whilst helping to improve lives! The Grand Opening is on Monday 22nd October from 1:30-3:30pm, homemade scones and tea and coffee will also be available and all profits will be donated towards local homeless charities.
