Health Student With Health Professional

Health and Social Care learners at Middlesbrough College were given the opportunity to quiz working Health Professionals at a career exploration event.

Taking place in the Waterside Brasserie, students studying a health and social care course could make useful contacts to support their future careers and find out more about different job roles in the healthcare industry.

In a hot-seat style, Healthcare Professionals from various walks of life were individually quizzed by students about their careers; where did they start in their profession? What key skills are needed to succeed? How do they support people in everyday life?

Healthcare Professionals attending the event included NHS Specialists and Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Social Care Workers, Radiographers and Medicine Advisors. Learners gained real-life insight into the variety of pathways their qualification could lead to and gained career advice from professionals who were once in their shoes.

Students attending the events were studying a variety of study programmes in health and social care at the College, including Access to HE in Health, University level courses as well as full-time students in their second year.

One Healthcare Professional was Louise Pearson, a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, who started her career in health at Middlesbrough College: “I started here 14 years ago as a student doing an Access to HE course and then went onto a nursing degree and now I’m going a master’s degree in advanced clinical skills. I was keen to come along to not only to talk to students, but to show people that you are never too old to get an education and fulfilling career.”

Middlesbrough College provides a wide range of courses in health and social care. Students have access to a realistic health ward and training facilities and can complete valuable work placements with local employers.

Applications are now open for September 2024! Find your perfect health and social care course by clicking here.
