After applying for university but realising it wasn’t the route for her, Katy decided to try an apprenticeship.

As a keen mathematical fan, she applied for a maths vacancy at company, Aedis back in April 2015. Fast forward to October 2018 and Katy was promoted to a permanent team leader role!

“As my apprenticeship position progressed, I was given the opportunity to take on more responsibilities which I really enjoyed.

“I started out my role carrying out tasks including data input and answering queries and towards the end of my apprenticeship my manager mentioned how the company would benefit from a team leader. I decided to apply and it was the best thing I’ve done!

“I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone wanting to learn and gain hands on experience – I would 100% do it again!

“It can be quite challenging at times when trying to balance around your life but it’s so worth it.

“I’m now in the process of completing an accountancy qualification alongside my job – I’m always excited to develop my skills and the opportunities available at Northern Skills Group really support this.

“Overall it’s been a fantastic experience!”
