  • We know you are keen to come to College and study face-to-face alongside your fellow students, learning from your inspirational teachers. The MC Click scheme isn’t an attempt to replace your physical College attendance, but simply an opportunity to ensure all learners are equipped with the tools and skills to succeed, no matter what your subject.
  • Whilst many of our students have their own device at home, the issue of a college device ensures all students have the same access to IT to complete their assignments and any online modules within their course.
  • Over time, we hope to remove some of the computers from our classrooms to provide a more flexible learning environment for our students and teachers. This does not mean that your device will be required for every lesson as we value face to face teaching and developing writing skills, but it may mean that they are required in some classes.
  • With an increase in digital collaboration, communication, and content delivery – students are able to study and work from home in a more flexible way
  • The expansion of personal devices means that the learning resource centre can be used for more collaborative learning or for those who don’t have quiet spaces at home.

The device remains the property of Middlesbrough College under the loan scheme and needs to be returned to the Help Centre for anyone withdrawing or not completing their course. Additionally, any student completing a 1-year course at the College will also need to return their device to the Help Centre upon the end of their course.

From September 2022, students who complete the laptop scheme for 2 years can keep the device. We will transfer the device ownership from the College to the student. Any student that leaves within 2 years needs to return the device to Helpcentre.

  • It is important that you take care of your equipment.
  • If you lose your device you must inform us straightaway so we can disable the device via security / tracking software that we have asked the supplier to pre install on each machine. You are not guaranteed a replacement and will be required to make a contribution of £50 to the lost value of the device. If you receive the college bursary, this can be paid for from that bursary scheme.
  • If you damage your device – you may be asked to contribute up to £50 towards fixing it. If you receive the college bursary, this can be paid for from that bursary scheme.

Yes - however you need to be aware that:

  • If you withdraw from the college, the device will be disabled, unable to be used and any data or information installed will be lost
  • When you return the device, all information on it will be deleted
  • Personal use must be for appropriate content only and must not interfere with the performance of the device for example downloading of large and multiple video content
  • Our web filtering systems will continue to flag any inappropriate material / website searches made by these devices and students accessing inappropriate material will be spoken to individually to determine the seriousness of the breach.

Yes – and this software will be regularly and remotely updated by us, however we recommend you remain cautious about emails, website or other online content which is of an unknown or suspicious source and seek advice from college if you need help or support.

Eligible students will receive their device upon receipt of their ID card – which should be immediately after your enrolment is confirmed on site.

You will be required to sign electronically to confirm you understand the terms and conditions of issue and of use and the commitment to return the device to the College at the end of your study programme or if you decide to withdraw from the College.

If you are loaning a device – you must return it to the Help Centre on the main Middlehaven site within 1 week of leaving your course.

You should think of your device as an essential part of your ‘digital pencil case’ - just like pens, pencils and highlighters, think of it as just one of the many study tools you’ll need to use every day.

You will not need to use your device in every lesson, but you may be asked to use your device at any time and so it is important that you carry it with you at all times as part of your day-to-day college equipment.

There will be a small number of devices in each classroom available for students who forget their device. Individual access to these is not guaranteed therefore it is important you remember to bring your device into college when required.

The battery life on the devices should last all day if fully charged on the morning.

It is a requirement that devices are charged each day before college.

There will be a limited number of charging points available on site.

Our refurbished learning resource centre (LRC) has over 90 pre-bookable devices which can be used at any time during their extended opening hours for your assignment or college work.
